The 101st Airborne Division: Screaming Eagles

The 101st Airborne Division, also known as the 101st Airborne Division, or Screaming Eagles Division, is a paratroopers division of the United States Army. The origins of the 101st can be traced back to World War I, although this regiment eventually did not participate in that conflict. It was then the 101st Infantry, and it was not until August 1942 that it became an airborne troop. During the Second World War, the "101st Airborne Division" distinguished itself in many battles, including the Normandy landings, Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. Since World War II, the 101st Airborne has been mobilized in many conflicts, including the Vietnam War, the First Gulf War and the Iraq War. Today, the "101st Airborne" retains its designation "airborne troops" even though these operations are no longer within its purview. Airborne operations are now reserved for the 82nd Airborne Division. Because of this name, the North American Army is the only brigade to have two "Airborne" divisions.
