A brief history of the 2nd Armoured Division

The 2nd Armoured Division, commonly known as the Leclerc Division, was one of the most famous units in the French Army during the Second World War. Commanded by General Philippe Leclerc, this armoured division played a crucial role in the liberation of France in 1944. Made up mainly of French volunteers, the Leclerc Division was integrated into the Allied forces and took part in a number of decisive operations, including the liberation of Paris in August 1944.

After landing in Normandy, the 2nd Armoured Division fought fiercely across France, demonstrating a formidable efficiency in the use of tanks and armoured vehicles. The courage and determination of its soldiers helped drive back the Nazi forces and liberate several French towns. Division Leclerc also continued its efforts in Germany, playing a key role in the final victory in Europe.
